The Clash of the Los Angeles Galaxy Roster: Who Stays, Who Goes

WHO STAYS:

CRISTIAN PAVON. As we already know, Pavon is very unlikely to actually still be an LA Galaxy player come next season since his loan deal is over this December. Our best player, an MLS MVP candidate despite playing in one of the worst teams this season. One can only hope. Destination: Starting 11 Crucial Role, Boca then Europe CONTRACT: Loan Deal until December 2020

JULIAN ARAUJO. The LA Galaxy’s defender and humanitarian of the year, Julian is key to having an aggressive and energetic defense. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave during the winter transfer window to a Bundesliga team or even the Eredivisie. Destination: Starting 11 Crucial Role, Bundesliga, Eredivisie CONTRACT: UNKOWN

SEBASTIAN LLETGET. Arguably our second best player this season, he found his way back to be an offensive threat like he once was for us. So far his best position is playing behind a forward as a “10” as he has freedom to roam outside the box and get in the box during attacking opportunities. Destination: Starting 11 Crucial Role, Serie A, Ligue 1 CONTRACT: December 2021/2022

JAVIERCHICHARITO” HERNANDEZ. I know, I know. He has been one of, if not the worst signing so far in our Club’s history. BUT, maybe the problem was the tactics from the previous coach. In the last few matches, Chicharito seemed to have found a new groove and was much more active from going deep to creating attacking opportunities for himself and even snagging another goal. Destination: Important Role, Liga MX CONTRACT: DECEMBER 2022

DANIEL STERES. I would argue that Steres is the rock in our back line. It’s hard to make a case in keeping any of our defenders after such a bad season, but I think if we were to have a more consistent back four and a better defensive midfield, this backline wouldn’t look half-bad. Destination: Starting 11 Crucial Role, MLS CONTRACT: DECEMBER 2021/2022

JONATHAN DOS SANTOS. El Capi! Unfortunately, Jona suffered an injury ridden 2020 season which led to him being benched or out of the squad. Being a Designated Player, we must renegotiate his contract considering the very little game time he gave us this season, that way it opens a DP spot to strengthen the squad for 2021. Destination: Starting 11 Crucial Role, Liga MX CONTRACT: DECEMEBER 2021

NICK DEPUY. At the start of the season, DePuy looked liked a seasoned veteran in the MLS despite this being his debut MLS season for the most part. Unfortunately, he had some rough calls against him toward the end, mostly hand ball decisions in and around the box that would cost the LA Galaxy a goal against them. Yet, he was definitely one of the better players that we had this season. Destination: Important Role, MLS, Championship CONTRACT: UKNOWN

GEANCARLO GONZALEZ. Despite him being pretty unreliable at the start of this season, he seemed to have a resurgence after the sacking of GBS. Of course he wouldn’t make it as our first choice center back, but I think with his experience in the backline, we are better off with him on our bench. Destination: Rotation Role, MLS, Liga MX CONTRACT: DECEMBER 2021

JOE CORONA. Pick up the option for his one year extension. The Galaxy need DEPTH. It is one of the major things we have lacked for so many seasons. Our bench is just not good enough to have a positive impact during key matches. Corona would serve us great as a Defensive Midfield option when we just need to secure the points or even give someone a breather. Destination: Important Role, MLS, Liga Mx CONTRACT: DECEMBER 2020, OPTION FOR 1 MORE YEAR

EFRAIN ALVAREZ. I don’t expect Efra to be with the LA Galaxy next season. Although he has not played much this season, the time he did play he showed glimpses of what he is capable of doing. Of course it would be ideal for us to keep such an amazing talent, but I think if the right offer comes along for him and the club, it is best to just part ways and wish him well. Destination: Liga MX, Eredivisie, Championship, Liga NOS. CONTRACT: UNKOWN

DAVID BINGHAM. Bingham is just one of those keepers that will either Win you a match or give you a headache with his decision making. Still, I think he is a good keeper to have as an option on the bench. This will also be good competition for our future goalkeepers like Klinsmann, Vom Steeg and Lopez. Destination: Galaxy Bench, MLS CONTRACT: OUT OF CONTRACT

JONATHAN KLINSMANN. GORDON WILD. CAMERON DUNBAR. KAI KORENIUK. DIEDIE TRAORE. DANNY ACOSTA. We unfortunately did not get to see much of these players this season, but I strongly believe that each of these players have a bright future within the LA Galaxy. Klinsmann was a shot-stopper in his first match despite the score-line. Wild looked to be a good winger to come off the bench. Dunbar has something special in him, keep an eye on this kid. Koreniuk’s only shot on target ended in the back of the net. Traore brought speed and aggressiveness on the left side similar to Julian Araujo. Acosta suffered a season long injury, but looked promising in the early minutes of pre-season action. Destination: Galaxy Bench, Los Dos CONTRACTS: UNKOWN

WHO GOES:

ROLF FELTSCHER. HE CAN’T STAY UNDER HIS CURRENT CONTRACT AND WAGES. If he were to accept an appropriate wage, then I would possibly consider him being a depth option for us. But I think his time with the Galaxy is up, we need fresh blood and a better option as a back up right-back. Destination: MLS, Liga MX, SAF, RSL/Swiss Super League CONTRACT: OUT OF CONTRACT

EMILIANO INSUA. Fun fact, Insua was the second most played player this season. And I am still not convinced that he was a huge impact on this team. He did have a pretty strong finish to the season, but he unfortunately isn’t the best option at left-back if we were to keep Pavon. We need a speedy, young, and hungry left-back that would be able to track back fast in a counter attack. He doesn’t have to go from the club, but I think he has to go to the bench next season. Destination: Galaxy Bench, MLS, Liga MX, SAF CONTRACT: DECEMBER 2021/2022

YONY GONZALEZ. The player with the worst luck in an LA Galaxy shirt this season. Signed on in August, didn’t get to play a single minute until October because of Covid-19 restrictions. And to top it off, he was subbed off in the final match of the season thanks to a red card in the first half. I doubt he would want to extend his stay with the club, and now he will just leave with a poor taste in his mouth after this experience. Destination: Benfica/Fluminense CONTRACT: LOAN EXPIRES DECEMBER 2020

ETHAN ZUBAK. Thank you for the same amount of goals that Chicharito scored this season, thank you for your hustle, but I just don’t see him being in the squad next season. Unfortunately, I see him doing a loan spell with Los Dos or any USL team at the moment. Destination: Los Dos, USL, MLS CONTRACT: UNKOWN

SACHA KLJESTAN. I can see why the LA Galaxy would pick up the option for Sacha, his experience within the MLS comes in clutch as well as him being the unofficial leader of this squad. But he is taking up a valuable spot in the roster that can be used to boost our midfield options. Destination: MLS, Los Dos, Retire, Galaxy Coaching Role CONTRACT: DECEMBER 2020, OPTION FOR 1 MORE YEAR

EMIL CUELLO. Another player taking up a spot in the roster, he just unfortunately not the best option to have coming off the bench. I can see him being loaned out to gain experience in a starting role, and hopefully coming back with us. Destination: Liga MX, USL, MLS, SAF CONTRACT: UNKOWN

PERRY KITCHEN. Thank you for your service. You gave us good matches when it mattered in the playoffs. Other than that, not much to say about his LA Galaxy career. Destination: MLS, USL, Retire CONTRACT: OUT OF CONTRACT

CARLOS HARVEY.JUSTIN VOM STEEG. ERIC LOPEZ. JONATHAN PEREZ. We didn’t get to see much of these players this season unfortunately and I don’t see them getting much of that again in the coming season. I think it is best for them to be loaned out are given starting roles with Los Dos to gain more experience. Destinations: USL, MLS, Belgium First Division, 2. Bundesliga CONTRACTS: UNKOWN

Vamos Angelinos.
